OPPO's eponymous Watch is a high-end wearable that has options with on-device ECGs. Now, it officially has a second generation, slated to launch at the end of July 2021. It is slated to integrate the latest Snapdragon Wear 4100 SoC, which will help run a dual OS system designed to stretch screen-on time.
The OPPO Watch could be said to be the closest Android-based Apple Watch clone out there. Not only does it have a square form-factor, it supports the feature of user electrocardiography (ECG) in one of its variants. Now, it also has an upcoming successor.
This wearable, now officially acknowledged as the Watch 2, is slated to have a similar build thanks to an advance listing on JD.com. This leak indicates that it will come in cases of either steel-gray or black with either sports or leather strap options.
OPPO's Watch 2 is also said to launch with standalone LTE connectivity via eSIM, 16GB of internal storage, and to have 42mm or 46mm size options. It is also believed to have adopted the dual-SoC, dual-OS strategy used by some other wearables for improved battery life.
Accordingly, it may launch with both the Snapdragon Wear 4100 and the Ambiq Apollo4s, which will run ColorOS and a version of RTOS respectively. This software (most probably the former) is expected to offer new watchfaces, and an app for stress management.
On that note, there may be doubt that its July 27, 2021 event will be a global launch for this upcoming wearable, due to the total lack of Wear OS-related predictions for the device. Then again, its predecessor did indeed make it outside China after all.
