Somebody in the golf officials’ tent has actually stepped outside and discovered there is no rain and little wind, let alone any thunder or lightning.
So play will restart at 2.15 AEST after a needless 40-minute pause.
Can Hannah Green bring home a medal in golf?Credit:AP
The situation on course is this. Both of the final groups are on the short par-4 17th. Just to confuse things further, the Inami-Pedersen-Green group called the Korda-Ko-Ashok group to hit up.
When they resume, Green (-14) and Inami (-16) have two-metre putts for birdies. Pederson (-12) is on the edge of the green with either a long putt or chip for eagle.
Ko (-15) drove the green and has about four metres for eagle.
And Korda (-17) and Ashok (-15) are both facing the similar lob out of the rough that green and Inami just played. That’s a lot to take in, but the long and the short of it is that Nelly Korda is still in the box seat for gold, Hannah Green needs to sink this birdie putt for a shot at a medal, and there are still multiple permutations possible for all six players.
It’s a blanket finish….and would’ve been even more exciting if it was played without this delay!
