“We are talking to a number of witnesses, a number of family members, a number of members of the community that have provided information to us that we are acting on,” he said.

Superintendent Wilde said there were no records of threats or violence against Ms Dweh in the past.

Ms Dweh’s friends and family described the aged care home nurse as a doting mother to her three children and role model within Perth’s close-knit Liberian community.

The 36-year-old, who came to Australia as a teenager after fleeing the civil war in her native Liberia, had just gone on maternity leave ahead of the birth of her fourth child.

Liberian community leader Christopher Sunday told reporters on Tuesday Ms Dweh was a respected leader within the African diaspora and had become the go-to person for counselling and advice.

She was known for her braiding skills and would often style the hair of younger African girls.

“She is the boss in our African community,” Mr Sunday said.

Ms Dweh’s relatives have called for her death to be treated as a double murder but WA Police acting Commissioner Col Blanch said it was unlikely the tragedy would be considered as such.

Superintendent Wilde said WA Police would discuss appropriate charges for the death of Ms Dweh’s unborn child with the Department of Public Prosecutions, but current laws limited the scope of what police could do.

“It’s a very tragic event. She was a beautiful, loving woman, who was well respected within the community. She was well-loved by her family and children, they are devastated,” he said.

Ms Dweh’s children are currently under the care of relatives.
