The NRL integrity unit is set to interview several Roosters players in a bid to get to the bottom of an incident between skipper James Tedesco and a 20-year-old woman in Bondi last week.

The NRL launched an investigation late on Sunday after Tiffany Trinh, 20, lodged a formal complaint with the league, claiming Tedesco had shouted “squid games” at her - a reference to the popular Korean Netflix series - outside Beach Road Hotel in Bondi early on Thursday morning.

Trinh, who is of Vietnamese descent, told the Herald on Sunday she felt Tedesco was making a “joke about her race” and felt intimated by the Roosters skipper and his group of teammates, who were with him at the time.

On Monday, the NRL confirmed a complaint had been lodged and said they would be speaking to as many witnesses as possible, including a number of Roosters players.

Roosters chief executive Joe Kelly said the club became aware of the allegation when Trinh’s sister posted about the incident on Instagram on Friday.

“After we found out about the Instagram post, we thoroughly investigated the matter,” Kelly said. “There was absolutely no interaction between James Tedesco with this group of people. We categorically deny that anything untoward occurred.”

However, Trinh’s sister confirmed to the Herald that neither she nor her sister had been contacted by the Roosters as part of the club’s investigation.

Both said they were shocked at the Roosters’ claim to have already concluded their investigation by Sunday, despite only having been made aware of the incident on Friday, and were confused as to why the club had not sought Trinh’s account of events.
