Track good 4 and rail true
Race 1 MAIDEN HCP (1000m)
Small fields are the order of the day as we start with a likely hot favourite in Deep Field three-year-old 1. Sacred Field, who returns as a gelding off a dominant trial win. Tackled much stronger metro two-year-old class in two runs midyear.
Dangers: Rubick colt 2. Far Too Hot makes his debut having won the second of two recent trials.
How to play it: Sacred Field to win and quinella 1 and 2. Odds and Evens: Split
Racing returns to Gosford on Thursday.
Race 2 4YO & UP MAIDEN PLATE (1100m)
Far more even affair here, and keen on improving provincial mare 10. Oakfield Blossom who is ready to peak at her third start over more ground. Has led up in both runs so far and only collared late, and from a low draw around a tighter track, this shapes as an ideal assignment.
Dangers: Expecting big improvement from provincial mare 8. Lessing, who did it tough in the run first-up for 11 months. Can be ridden quieter here over 200m further and be strong late. Must include local four-year-old 1. Galbalan who pulled up with problems after dropping as a hot favourite at Coonamble second-up; while 2. Intole Rant is a value exotic player resuming for a new stable off two trials.
How to play it: Oakfield Blossom to win. Odds and Evens: Evens
Race 3 MAIDEN PLATE (1600m)
Still with the maidens over the mile, and capable metro filly 6. Charity Spirit can pay back punters after missing as an odds-on favourite in the country third-up on heavy ground. Two previous runs were ultra-solid in much deeper grade, and back sharply in distance on a much firmer surface, should prove the key to breaking through.
Dangers: Improving filly 5. Calm Down was well fancied at double-figure odds before doing her best work late on debut at Goulburn, and the winner of that race won again at Hawkesbury on Tuesday. By Savabeel, and a further 300m will suit. Keep safe nicely bred filly 8. Piempurr who beat all bar the winner on debut in that same maiden at Goulburn, and draws to get a soft trail. Another filly 7. Galactic Angel is fourth-up dropping significantly back from group 1 level when beaten out of sight; while home-track filly 9. Vanilli can run into a place at third start over further.
How to play it: Charity Spirit to win. Odds and Evens: Split
Race 4 COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES CLASS 1 HCP (1200m)
Big fan of progressive four-year-old 1. Raoul who swept home for a dominant win resuming before stiff not to salute again in heavy going at Tamworth. Draws to get plenty of cover, and has the superior closing sprint.
Dangers: Progressive metro three-year-old 3. Ka Bling is the immediate threat at his fourth start, and drawn the inside. Did best down the middle to break through two runs back before ridden quieter at Newcastle and thundered home to narrowly miss. Again draws to do little or no work, and will be tough to hold out. Progressive four-year-old 2. Pascal was impressive first-up at Newcastle after tracking the speed, and draws to get a similar run here. The rest appear outclassed.
How to play it: Raoul to win and box trifecta 1,2,3. Odds and Evens: Split
