Brae Sokolski, the part-owner of Cup winner Verry Elleegant and second placegetter Incentivise, has told Channel 10 adrenalin got the better of him after the race and he jumped the fence to be with his horses.

“[I’m] apologetic about the protocols, but I wanted to be with the mare and Incentivise,” he said.

“Sorry, the adrenalin got the better of me. These moments are once in a lifetime.

“Honestly? She is incredible. To bring up your 10th group 1 winning a Melbourne Cup. That takes her, in my mind, to the upper echelons of the pantheon of Australia’s greatest racehorses. She will not be out of place the greatest horses we’ve seen, to win the Caulfield Cup and a Melbourne Cup with 57 kilograms is, as a mare on top of the weight-for-ages, [is] extraordinary.

“What a ride and what a training performance from Chris Waller and his whole team, Joe Taylor, the proper A-team.“

He described the moment as the most humbling of his life.

“I’m lost for words. The most humbling moment of my life. Incentivise was the hype horse. We thought he would win. But, geez, we had so much faith in her [Very Elleegant] still. At the 200-metre mark, when I saw the colours, I knew the race was over, she cruised in.

“A dream come true, having a runner, let alone a winner, let alone running the quinella. They did us is so proud.
