The pair – a 25-year-old from Currimundi and 22-year-old from Baringa – were attempting to fix the bus, which had broken down on the side of Nambour Connection Road at Woombye at 3.30pm yesterday, when the westbound vehicle hit them.

Both men – reportedly mechanics – were critically injured and were transferred to Sunshine Coast University Hospital but later died.

A 43-year-old Warana woman who was the driver and sole occupant of the car was not injured during the incident and is assisting police with their inquiries.

No one was on board the bus at the time and authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.

Police have asked anyone with information or dashcam footage in the area at the time to immediately come forward.
