“We will look to immediately allocate additional production volumes for the US and work with our retail and distribution partners to serve American families beyond November,” Lin said. “We will also continue to work with FDA under its guidance to ensure that Bubs can serve the American market permanently.”

Meanwhile, the fifth and sixth planes make up US President Joe Biden’s 14th ‘Operation Fly Formula’, and will take off on July 10 and 21 carrying around 180,000 cans of formula to be delivered to California, Ontario, Columbus and Ohio.

Bubs Australia slid into a trading halt on Tuesday for its equity raise, which consisted of a $32.4 million institutional placement and a $30.6 million entitlement offer. After coming out of the trading halt on Thursday, Bubs shares are down 3.3 per cent to $0.59 in early trade.

The funds will be used to power its long-term presence and growth in the US market currently suffering from an ongoing shortage of infant formula triggered by the closure of a key manufacturing plant of Abbott Laboratories, US’ biggest infant formula supplier.

Califf said the shortage, and subsequent flooding events which caused a second shutdown of Abbott’s Michigan plant, had highlighted “just how vulnerable the supply chain has become”.

“The need to diversify and strengthen the US infant formula supply is more important than ever,” he said.

“The FDA expects that our continued efforts will help infant formula manufacturers who are new entrants to the US market better understand their options to continue producing and supplying formula to the US in the weeks, months and years ahead.”
