Richmond coach Damien Hardwick has admitted he overstepped the mark in yelling at a VFL player last Saturday.

At his weekly press conference on Thursday, Hardwick said he was sorry for his actions and he would apologise to the VFL player from Williamstown if the player required it.

“Look, I understand my position, I’ve got to be better than that,” Hardwick said.

“I’m probably judged on a higher standard and I understand that.

“What I will ask is that is I am human, I’m going to make mistakes and there’s no doubt that I overstepped the mark and, the reality is, I’m very passionate about my players and always have been and always will be.

“I made a mistake in the realities. I’m going to make mistakes going forward. Hopefully, not too many but always the same applies. You guys know that I probably didn’t need to lean over the fence and yell, but that’s me. What makes me good, makes me bad.”

Asked if he had been disciplined by the AFL, Hardwick said his mum had told him off for letting his emotions get the better of him.

“Well, not from the AFL, but my mum, Pam, gave me a very stern reminder about my behaviour,” Hardwick said.
