More than $1.7 billion has been doled out to about 430 thousand Australians following the Robodebt class action - but don't be fooled into thinking everyone got a massive payout.

Perth man Jonathan Hopper recently received a notification informing him he would be paid the "grand total" of five cents. 

"This has been rounded up from four cents," he told Nadia Mitsopoulos.

"Three cents were the interest I lost for being without the money after I repaid the debt, and one cent is from the class action settlement."

"I'm having a giggle because the letter it comes on is certainly worth more than five cents."
