Perth Glory has described reports of an altercation between head coach Ruben Zadkovich and player Giordano Colli during a training session as “exaggerated”.

Even though the incident sparked an investigation by the Australian Professional Leagues – which runs the A-League Men competition – and the players’ union Professional Footballers Australia to neither union would be taking the matter further, according to a statement from the club.

Glory also claimed that no complaint was made internally and there would be no further investigation.

“The club regards the safety and well-being of its players and staff as its highest priority,” said Perth Glory chief executive Anthony Radich.

“Accordingly, I have spoken to the coach and the player allegedly involved and also consulted with both APL and PFA.

“Based on these discussions, I have concluded that the alleged incident has been exaggerated and am satisfied that no further action is required.”

According to multiple sources familiar with the incident, Zadkovich was a fill-in for a game of five-a-side with players during Tuesday’s session, which became heated.

Zadkovich bumped into young midfielder Giordano Colli during the drill, causing them to both fall to the ground, where they wrestled with one another.

The training session was also recorded on video by a drone, according to one dressing room source.
