Lunch: India make it. Just
Ashwin and Axar see out that last over from Starc to make it to the interval and India are seven down. That’s no typo. And it could’ve easily been more too.
Superb effort in the field from Australia, taking 5-18 at one point after Rohit Sharma was given two lives by the umpires in the very first over.
Murphy, Kuhnemann and Lyon all bowling brilliantly on a pitch offering all sorts of assistance, Steve Smith also managing his bowlers smartly too - at least two instances of wickets being taken straight away a bowling change.
India: 7/84 - Axar 6* Ashwin 1*
Wicket: DRS jags another for Australia
Very big shout once more from the Aussies. Smith and Carey especially confident with the LBW appeal against Bharat from Lyon. Not out is the OG call.
Spinning back in, and doing so perfectly - that’s hitting middle and leg and the umpire’s decision is overturned. Another wicket for Lyon now, he’s got three as Ravichandran Ashwin marches out - the last of India’s long list of recognised batters. Mitchell Starc gets an over now just before lunch.

Six: Bharat sweeps into the stands
Well, Bharat’s been more or less measured in his approach since coming to the crease, but he doesn’t mind the slog sweep. And why wouldn’t he when he’s able to heave Murphy away over mid-wicket for much-needed runs. Looks like one of those ‘best defence/good offence’ situations. The fun continues.
India: 6/82 - Bharat 17* Axar 5*
Wicket: Murphy knocks over Kohli
Todd Murphy with the big scalp - Virat Kohli rapped on the pad and given out. Kohli sends it upstairs as he simply has to given they’re five down. But it’s to no avail, pitches in line and pretty much plumb, hitting halfway up leg stump.
Fair play to Kohli, his has been a fine innings in absolutely treacherous waters. The only batter to look anywhere near comfortable out there but Murphy nabs him for the third time in as many games. A sub-100 total genuinely looms.
India: 6/70 - Kohli 22 Bharat 10*
Stats: Lyon sits top of the pile in Asia
Another big shout by Nathan Lyon for LBW, the Aussies come together and decide not to review. Bharat is able to nudge one into the leg-side afterwards to get off strike, a bit of a breather from that wild first hour but Lyon especially threatening with every delivery. Kuhnemann swings around to the opposite end in his place now.
And sneaking through a bit of history with his last dismissal of Jadeja, courtesy of the bean counters in the Fox Sports Lab, Lyon has now taken more wickets than any overseas bowler in Asia.
India: 5/70 - Kohli 22* Bharat 10*
A review goes down the drain for Australia
Big shout from Nathan Lyon for LBW now against Bharat as he sweeps on bent knee. Pitches outside off and missing the stumps down leg according to ball-tracking. Australia lose a review from that one before Bharat winds up with the same shot for the next ball and gets ahold of it - clobbers Lyon over mid-wicket.
India: 5/66 - Kohli 19* Bharat 9*
Todd Murphy into the attack
Todd Murphy getting in on the fun now with a tidy start and a very naughty looking bowling card for the Aussies so far. An appeal for a stumping against Bharat shows his foot never left the ground and India stem the tide briefly.
India: 5/61 - Kohli 18* Bharat 5*
Hayden: You’ve got to give batters a chance
More balls staying low after the drinks break with Srikar Bharat to the crease. Virat Kohli is good enough to whip Lyon’s last ball the boundary and bring up the 50.
Matthew Hayden blowing up deluxe in commentary at the state of this pitch and the turn and (lack of) bounce and hard to argue with him given the pace we’re rolling through at. Day three will be a short one at this rate.
India: 5/57 - Kohli 15* Bharat 4*
Brettig: Expert exploitation of the conditions
Wicket: Shreyas chops on
Good lord. Don’t sit down, we’ve moved your chair and India’s lost another. Drinks break called thankfully as Shreyas Iyer succumbs to Kuhnemann. Looked to cut another length ball and only ended up chopping into the deck. Slow bounce from the pitch looks to have done him before confusion about whether there was a deflection from Carey’s pads.
None of that, just another clean wicket, Iyer gone for a duck, and India are five down as we only just move past the hour-mark. Rapid stuff.
