Du bought the home from a private company directed by Autobarn co-founder Garry Dumbrell.

The home was also owned by Leslie Casey – married to former Richmond Football Club president Clinton Casey – who sold in 2009 for $20.25 million.

Built in 1890, the grand manor on more than 4200 square metres of land has four storeys and several formal and informal dining rooms.

It has seven bathrooms, a cinema in the basement, a 10-car garage, two resort-style swimming pools, a gym and steam room, a wine cellar for more than 4000 bottles, two rooftop terraces and six kitchens, including one that is commercial grade.

It has previously been listed for sale in 2018, and relisted in 2021, but it was withdrawn when it did not find a buyer.

The new buyer will be in a prestigious neighbourhood backing onto Invergowrie, another historic home that sold in 2021 for $40.5 million.

Invergowrie is owned by Stephen and Angela Tomisich, co-founders of Trajan Scientific and Medical, who bought it from former Australia Post boss Ahmed Fahour.

The sale of Avon Court is a standout for the year so far, but it will not eclipse the Victorian house price record set last year, when a home on St Georges Road in Toorak sold for more than $80 million.

That record was set by crypto king Ed Craven, who bought the fixer-upper for $80,000,088 in August.

At the same time, another home on the same street sold to entrepreneur Grant Rule for just shy of $75 million.
