“More storm activity will develop further to the south-west of Victoria,” she said.
Cherny urged motorists to avoid driving in flooded areas.
“Just concentrate while being on the road and avoid dangerous hazards, such as damaged roads or any kind of floodwater,” she said.
The SES has responded to nine calls for flood-related incidents and sixteen calls for building damage in Moorabbin, Footscray, Werribee, Heidelberg, Sandringham and Hawthorn.
Volunteers urged Victorians to exercise caution.
“We do expect more calls for assistance,” said SES spokesperson David Murphy.
“Never drive on flooded roads and call 132 500 for emergency, flood, and storm assistance.”
The thunderstorm also caused flight disruptions at Melbourne Airport, with some international and domestic flights being delayed for up to 30 minutes.
Melbourne Airport issued a thunderstorm warning for 17 minutes just before 9am, barring staff from the tarmac.
