Perth Detectives have charged a 25-year-old man for allegedly stabbing a homeless man as he lay asleep on the street.

About 5am on Wednesday, May 8 on St Georges Terrace, it will be alleged the accused (25) approached the victim (29) and stabbed him twice in the back as he lay in his sleeping bag.

He was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment.

Officers arrested the accused about 11.30am on Friday on Lord Street and have charged him with one count of doing an act causing bodily harm, with intent.
