One of NSW’s oldest and most loved gallopers is set to claim only his second win in nearly 17 months at Monday’s feature Sapphire Coast meeting.

My Blue Jeans, an evergreen grey 10-year-old in the Danny Williams stable at Goulburn, incredibly lines up for his 125th start in a very modest Benchmark 58 Hcp over a mile.

And with recent form suggesting his zest for racing is far from done, My Blue Jeans gets conditions to suit chasing an 11th win in a career that started way back in September 2019.

While the track was rated a Heavy 10 early on Sunday after days of rain, clearing weather means it should settle around a Soft 7 or Heavy 8 and continue to improve.

Either way, with plenty of sting out of the surface, never-say-die veteran My Blue Jeans will be right at home in conditions he’s taken on board year after year.

Seven of those 10 career wins – stretching from a BM 58 win in 2020 to a similar victory at Moruya in June this year – have come on either soft or heavy going.

Most of those wins have either come at Goulburn or Moruya, but in suitable conditions over his pet distance, he can finally open his account at the Far South Coast circuit.

Two starts back at Nowra, My Blue Jeans surged home to be beaten under a length at big odds before repeating the dose in a stronger field at home, again doing his best work late behind smart winner Stay Tuned.

A fortnight between runs, and with Quayde Krogh taking over in the saddle, the timeless gelding can remind everyone that age is only a number.
