The 'Reel Australia' is portrayed through the story of a young Australian viewing their world from the standing point of Sydney Observatory Hill.
Australia is a young and free country that celebrates multiculturalism and the belief in a 'fair go'. I have representated Australia's characteristics through the motif of a kite. The kite symbolises Australia's cultural identity through the notions of:
-freedom and equality
As a kite physically explores new horizons, living in a free country Australians
are able to freely live in an equal society and have the freedom to achieve their dreams.
-Family, Friends
As a kite is held, metaphorically reflects the characteristics of trust, and security amongst Australians. Furthermore - Family, community and mateship.
Our national identity is constructed on the backs of heroes. I decided to combine images of Australian history within a modern context to represent how our freedom and identity is shaped through an understanding of our past.
