Held annually to officially launch the local whale season, the Hervey Bay Whale Festival provides a week-long celebration for locals and visitors to the region. The festival celebrates the arrival in the bay of humpback whales, which rest in the bay during their annual southward migration. A regular part of the whale festival is the Blessing of the Fleet, which takes place on the boardwalk at Urangan Harbour. Entertainment and a parade of boats provide an exciting afternoon, which concludes with fireworks after dark. There can't be many better ways to spend a day than watching humpback whales frolic in pristine waters on their journey south. This amazing event features a cultural program designed to cater for all interests and age groups. The program ranges from street parades, fire events, children's program and concert programs for the youth and seniors of the local community.
