The battery charge and battery save modes, and the ECO drive support system are innovative features that provide more efficient choices in the way the vehicle operates, with the ability to generate and store energy, to meet your individual driving needs.
EV Mode
The battery always starts in EV mode. When in EV mode selecting battery charge mode will start the petrol engine to operate the generator which in turn charges the drive battery, even when the vehicle is stationary. When charging by this method, the petrol engine idles at about 1000rpm and approximately 80% charge is achieved in 40 minutes. Charging time is affected by temperature and the use of air conditioning and heating as these systems use drive battery power for their operation. The way you drive the vehicle will also affect charging time and can increase fuel consumption.
Battery Save Function
The Battery Save function is designed to maintain the drive battery's state of charge. PHEV will continue to operate in either series hybrid drive mode or parallel hybrid drive mode. You may choose to save power to enable EV driving in a preferred location, such as a quiet residential area. Secondly, this can also be helpful to ensure enough battery power remains to remotely operate heating and cooling systems and for towing. When towing it is important to maintain sufficient drive battery state of Charge, especially when towing uphill or at higher road speeds. This can be done by using either the "battery charge function" or "battery save function".
