He said he expected the investigation to be finalised in the next “24 to 48 hours”.

“There’s an NRL investigation going on at the moment and I am happy for them to get to the truth,” Burgess said.

“I really am … I’m speaking in respect to my wife, my family, my wife’s family. It’s been a tough process to go through but I am fortunate that I have got a strong wife and great support around me.”

Burgess’ heavily pregnant wife, Phoebe, and their daughter have fled the city because of the media interest in them since News Corp published images and revealed details of the video chat.

“It’s a tricky time but it is what it is,” Burgess said. “We’re all standing here, talking about something when we should be focussing on the game in the next few days time.

The 29-year-old thanked his friends and family for their support.

"It's been a tough process to go through, (for) the family together, but fortunately I've got a strong wife.

"A wife who loves me. I've got great family, great friends, great support around me.

"You do feel it but I've had certain experiences in my life before, had serious emotions I've had to deal with, and football has always been great for me."
