South Sydney front-rower Liam Knight is the latest player to feel the brunt of the NRL's crackdown on illegal tackles on playmakers.

Knight is set to be suspended for up to three matches after being charged over a shot on Manly skipper Daly Cherry-Evans during the Rabbitohs' 21-20 win on Saturday.

The 24-year-old was handed a grade two dangerous contact by the match review panel on Sunday over the tackle after Cherry-Evans had passed the ball and can accept a two-game ban with an early guilty plea.

It comes after the NRL began a crackdown on illegal tackles, notably late and high hits on playmakers and crusher tackles, last month.
