Wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy is "unbelievably excited" that the 16-day tournament, contested by reigning champions Australia and nine other sides, is going to put women's sport front and centre.

She is trying to not think too negatively if Australia slip up before the final.

"[Pressure] is all part and parcel of representing your country in big events on home soil," said Healy at the launch of the T20 World Cup tour trophy at Bondi Beach on Wednesday. "The more we talk about it and embrace it the less nervous and the less anxious everyone will be.

"There is a lot of added pressure to be there on March 8 at the MCG. As a group we're embracing [the pressure] and the support. The group will feel that and we will play our best cricket.

"People are constantly telling me they're coming down on March 8 and saying, 'you'd better be there' but I just see it as a real positive that people are getting behind women's cricket in this country."

Already there has been light-hearted discussion about whether a player could replicate Jack Riewoldt's singing effort with The Killers after the 2017 AFL grand decider by jumping on stage with Katy Perry if Australia win the final. All-rounder Ash Gardner, who described the tournament as "once in a lifetime", believes Healy or Sophie Molineux would be most likely to get involved, while Healy feels Ellyse Perry is a "dark horse".

A couple of other sports stars in basketballer Liz Cambage and former beach volleyballer Kerri Pottharst were on at Bondi to promote the event. There was a sense of nostalgia for Pottharst, who 20 years ago won an Olympic gold medal on the beach in front of 10,000 fans.

"It was one of the most incredible days of our lives, so I know what it's going to feel like when these girls win in a few weeks," Pottharst said. "It can go either way. Sometimes it can be incredibly frightening to be in front of 10,000 or 100,000 people cheering for you because normally we're playing overseas and normally people are cheering against us."
