Victoria’s largest business organisation has welcomed the state government’s announcement about new, relaxed restrictions for businesses from Friday.

As we reported earlier, changes to the road map rules will mean pubs, restaurants and cafes across the state won’t have to abide by indoor caps on fully vaccinated patrons; only density limits.

Theatres and cinemas can host up to 1000 showgoers, and outdoor stadiums can host up to 5000 from 6pm on Friday.

Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry boss Paul Guerra said the changes would bring down the divide between the state’s regional areas and metropolitan Melbourne, with Victorians also free to travel between both from Friday.

Mr Guerra said the changes would mean every business in the state would be able to trade viably from Friday, and it would be a “champagne day for business which will then set us up for a spectacular summer”.

“This now starts a business-led recovery for the state,” Mr Guerra said.

“To be back on the same page, under the same rules and able to visit some of our favourite places in both Regional and Metropolitan Victoria again will provide a real boost to both business and morale.

“We know today’s announcement will be a massive step forward for the tourism, entertainment and events sector which can now plan to come back strong.”

Mr Guerra said the chamber was also thrilled to hear Premier Daniel Andrews outline what would rules would look like at the 90 per cent double-dosed target, as they reflected its “strong advocacy and input”.
