One thing’s for sure, the continual storms and wet weather besieging much of the mid and north coast of NSW is likely to see more stables from that region head south in search of firmer tracks.

And they need look no further than Coffs Harbour horseman Graham Payne, who saddles up two each-value chances at Hawkesbury.

Tough and consistent four-year-old Luz Long takes his place second-up in the opening Class 1 Hcp over 1500m. And Payne will be hoping for some just reward for switching tracks nearly 800 kilometres apart, after Luz Long beat all bar the winner when resuming in a modest class 1at Lismore.

While he will have his hands full against promising colt Maurice’s Choice and home-track mare Oh Golly Gosh, both last-start winners, Payne’s other runner, Baileys, is perhaps saddled with the biggest task on the card.

The tough five-year-old is third-up against Godolphin three-year-old and hot favourite Depiction, who will likely jump the shortest-price runner anywhere in the land, dropping back from the narrowest of seconds in a much tougher midweek metro race.
