It’s been a busy day so far. In case you haven’t had a chance to catch up on the latest political news, here’s a summary of today’s main stories.

Opposition leader Anthony Albanese rejected the claim Labor has dumped a plan to review the JobSeeker rate, amid an ongoing political debate about whether unemployed Australians can adequately live on a base rate of $46 per day.

“We haven’t dumped anything. What we have said is we don’t have a plan to increase the JobSeeker allowance in our first budget,” the Labor leader said.

He said a Labor government would be constrained by what it could do as a result of the country’s record debt levels while remaining “fiscally responsible”.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison was confronted by an angry activist last night at a sports club in Penrith as he hosted a private event for the travelling press pack.

The young man, who appears to be a Labor supporter on his social media accounts, can be seen on video screaming “you are a disgrace” at the prime minister after confronting him inside The Rowers club.

Leader of the Greens Adam Bandt promised Australians would receive universal access to free dental care in a $77.6 billion pledge to expand Medicare to allow bulk-billing at dentists, orthodontists and other specialists.

Declaring that millionaires will pay higher taxes to help fund the scheme, Bandt will urge voters to give the Greens the balance of power in parliament so the party can force the next government to spend more on health.

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson announced former federal Coalition MP George Christensen will run on her party’s Queensland Senate ticket. Christensen will be third on One Nation’s how-to-vote cards for the upper house.

Christensen, who sat in the Nationals party room, resigned from the LNP last week and has previously said he would not recontest his Mackay-based seat of Dawson.
